Race Manual for Jotunheimen Trail Run 2025
We look forward to meeting you at Beitostølen and Bygdin, Jotunheimen. This race manual contains essential safety information for all participants.
1.0 Mandatory equipment

An additional power or GPS device (not a mobile phone) is required: acceptable alternatives include a power bank with a charging cable, extra batteries for the GPS, or an extra fully charged GPS with the GPX file imported.

Normal running equipment for mountain weather.
1.1 Laws and rules
All distances are unsupported, for the sake of justice. This means it is not allowed to receive external help (drink/food/equipment/pacing) along the route, as long as it is not due to safety reasons or in connection with the organizer’s food and drink stations / checkpoint.
Breaking this rule will lead to disqualification
Cheering is of course allowed and very pleasant
For environmental reasons it is forbidden to throw garbage on the route
Breaking this rule will lead to disqualification
Lack of mandatory equipment will lead to start refusal or disqualification
Trekking poles are allowed
Race officials can take participants out of the race for safety reasons
For safety reasons, it is your duty to stop and help other runners if they need help
Penalties in form of additional race time or disqualification may be given if violation of rules, unsportsmanlike behaviour, or if participants expose themselves or other participants to unnecessary risk.
1.2 Safety Instructions
Participation in the event imposes the following requirements
If you are using medication or have previous injuries that may affect safety, you are obligated to disclose this information before registration/participation in the activity
As a participant, you are obligated not to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances during the activity
Participating in the activities is not recommended for individuals with:
Heart or lung problems
Neck or back problems
Other physical challenges that may affect safety
Pregnant women (depends on the activity and pregnancy situation)
If you are unsure, contact the organizer well in advance of the event.
1.3 Food and drink during the race
There will be free snacks and drinks for all participants at the finish line. For environmental reasons there will not be too many food/drinking stations along the rutes. This means that you have to bring along food and drink as needed and preferred for your distance. There will be many possibilities to fill up fresh mountain water from natural rivers along all the routes. Bring a cup or bottle for this, and check www.norgeskart.no for more detailed information about the natural rivers.
1.4 Navigation / Marking / GPS
The Skyrace and Half Marathon distances will be marked with orange event flags. The Ultra distances will not be marked with flags, but will follow established mountain trails. GPX files for use in a GPS watch will be available for all runners. The Ultra runners must upload their GPX file to their GPS unit before the race. GPS files for all distances are available for download under each route here
1.5 DNF / Cut-off / Injury / Accident / Ultra
If you are prevented by an injury or accident during the race, you must call the local emergency number; 957 20 466 so that the organizer can monitor the situation and provide assistance. If you do not report in, the organizer cannot guarantee that you will receive the expected help. There are limited roads and transportation possibilities out of the mountain, and can therefore take time if you need assistance out. Therefore please take care of yourself and fellow runners and please be patient if you need assistance. The cut-off time for entry at Fondsbu will be at 2 PM (kl. 14.00), and the cut-off time for exit will be at 2.30 PM (kl. 14.30). The start from Bygdin will be at 6 AM (kl. 06:00). If you are too tired or do not reach the cut-off time at Fondsbu, you can not continue the race due to safety reasons. You have to deliver your race bib and withdraw from the race. You will be registered as DNF (Did Not Finish), and get bus transportation with fellow JTR-runners back to Beitostølen/Bygdin.
1.6 Loss of Equipment
Participants must compensate for any self-inflicted loss or damage to equipment borrowed or rented from the organizer.
1.7 The Organizer's Right to Change/Cancel the Routes/Event
In case of very bad weather, conditions or unforeseen circumstances, the organizer may change the routes or cancel the event to provide the best experience and minimize risks for participants. Refunds will not be issued in these situations.
1.8 Responsibility and Co-responsibility
The organizer aims to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries by working with qualified healthcare professionals. To ensure optimal safety, all participants must take responsibility for their own safety and, additionally:
Accept and comply with the instructions and guidance from crew/organizer/health personnel throughout the activity
Be open and inform about any injuries to the crew/organizer/health personnel during the activity
Follow the applicable rules for the event
In many situations, this can be crucial for both your safety and the safety of other participants.
Participation in Jotunheimen Trail Run involves a certain risk of accidents and injuries. Possible injuries that may occur during participation include, among others, sprains, fractures, wounds, hypothermia, and dehydration. In the event such situations arise, please contact the nearest crew/organizer/health personnel or call the local emergency number; 957 20 466. We encourage participants to be aware of their own limits and safety risks, and to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries. As a participant, you have to be fully aware of, understand, and accept the risks associated with the activity and hereby absolve the organizer of liability for personal injuries, loss, and damage to/on persons or equipment. The organizer does not provide insurance, and therefore recommends that each participant ensures they have the desired insurance coverage in place before participating in the event. By participating in the event, you confirm that you are aware of and accept this, and that neither the organizer, nor any party associated with the organizer (e.g. crew/partners/health personnel), shall be held financially responsible for any injuries, accidents, or financial claims that may arise during or as a result of your participation. You have to understand and acknowledge this, and participate at your own risk.
1.9 Participant Responsibility
I acknowledge the risks and potential dangers involved in participating in the race. I accept full responsibility for my personal belongings and equipment during the event and any related activities.
I confirm that I am in good physical condition and capable of completing the race. I also grant Jotunheimen Trail Run the right to use photos and videos of me for event promotion purposes.
I agree to adhere to all event rules and regulations. When the course intersects with public roads, I will follow the applicable traffic laws.
The use of prohibited substances or supplements listed as doping is strictly forbidden, and Anti-Doping Norway reserves the right to conduct random doping tests.
An equipment check may be performed before the race, and participants with insufficient gear may be disqualified.
I release Jotunheimen Trail Run from any liability for claims arising from my participation in the event.
If you need to withdraw from the race or are hindered by an injury or an accident, please promptly inform the event organizer and safety personnel.
1.10 Declaration of responsibility
I participate voluntarily and commit to following the organizer's Race Manual and safety instructions. By participating, I acknowledge that I am participating at my own risk, and I commit to complying with and accepting all instructions and directives given by the crew/organizer/health personnel during the event.
By participating, I (participant) confirm that I have reviewed, understood and agreed to all necessary safety information related to the specific activity and all information, guidelines and terms outlined in this Race Manual.
